International Nature Photography Festival of the GDT 2012

Well, it’s over – too sad. An important date once a year, maybe THE date for Wildlife Photographers all over Europe. A great mixture of lectures, exhibitions and seminars. Thousands of people, thousands of impressions. Hundreds of friends to talk to, and never time enough. When it’s finished I always feel completely exhausted and likewise enthusiastic.

On Friday I held a seminar, together with Winfried Wisnieski At the seminar - Photo: R. Jakubowski and Markus Botzek – “On the way to better pictures”. I always like to hold this seminar, but this year it was especially nice: The three of us made a perfect team and I guess our visitors recognized that. In the afternoon we were supported by Sandra Bartocha, Dr. Hans-Peter Schaub, Radomir Jakubowski and Eberhard Giese – once more thanks to all of them!
For the first time there were several photo-exhibitions in the hall of images, thanks to the commitment of Klaus Nigge and Beate Raberg. I have been invited to show my exhibition “ABC of NATURE” there. A great opportunity to reach a wider public with nature images.

The lectures in the theatre were absolutely great. My personal favourites: The outstanding show of Orsolya and Erlend Haarberg and the interesting as well as very emotional talk of Bruno D’Amicis. And, of course, the lecture of Klaus Nigge about the elusive Saiga – really something special.

And, yes, I’m happy to announce that one of my images has been “highly commended” in the category “Nature’s Studio” – Five Ravens. Lucky again…

Five Ravens - Highly commended in the category "Nature's Studio" As every year I was in the “construction team”, installing the exhibitions and other parts of the festival. It is always remarkable that it takes three days to build up the festival and less than three hours to demount it – thanks to our perfect team of volunteers with its long-terme experiences.

I’m already looking forward to next year…

Swedish Spring

Well, I know autumn is coming soon, but maybe it’s nice to dream of the days of spring. The Swedish spring, with its hazes of cow parsley above rich green, its smell of lilac and the song of the woodlark. With dark forests where tiny white stars sparkle in the blue twilight. With nights that are none anymore. For four magnificent weeks I was allowed to witness these enchanting moments. Accompanied by Sandra Bartocha, as we started a big photographic project earlier this year. There will be more information about that here in the blog soon. It was, as always, a very good collaboration, and it is a great feeling to watch the project growing. To share special moments in nature, as well as photographical success or failure, is the best when working as a team. Soon we will start again northwards – I’m looking forward to it!

At the 22nd of March 2012 I was invited to hold the opening speech to the exhibition "GDT European Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2011" in the Stadtmuseum Schleswig. As a member of the jury I was able to tell the audience some interesting details of the judging process. The exhibition will be presented in the Stadtmuseum Schleswig until the 3rd of June 2012.
